An informal and purposeful community

Co-educational from 1915, St Christopher is noted for its friendly informality, breadth of educational vision and success in developing lifelong self-confidence. We have 540 pupils aged from 2 to 18. Boarders can start from age 8 and comprise over a third of the Senior School. We take children of average to outstanding ability and exam results are good. Pupils follow a full academic programme with all three sciences studied to age 16. Foreign languages have a strongly practical emphasis. The arts and technology are particularly encouraged, with our fine purpose-built facilities open at weekends. 19 A Level courses are available to 110 Sixth Formers. An extensive computer network links our teaching areas to our keyworded library and the Internet. We have a good record of providing for individual needs. We complement academic study with learning through experience, providing opportunities for Outdoor Pursuits and community service. Our System of self-government enables pupils to learn how to put forward their ideas and to listen to those others. There is no uniform and all are called by their first names. Internationalist and green values are encouraged; our diet has always been vegetarian. There is no compulsory worship so people of different religions and of none feel equally at home. We aim for our young people to develop competence and resourcefulness, social conscience and moral courage, a capacity for friendship and a true zest for life.
